2ND SUNDAY - AUGUST 8th!!

HEADLINERS

Colette
Colette
With her disarming doe eyes and a heartwarming demeanor, Colette possesses the unmistakable voice of post-millennial house music. Her sweet-but-sultry voice has been called "angelic" so many times, it's a miracle she hasn't grown wings: Imagine a less breathy Kylie Minogue merged with a more controlled Roisin Murphy (Moloko) and you have a good grasp on her classy voice that highlights any beat that flows behind it. Whereas in the late 80s, the diva reigned supreme and made the music cower, Colette has kept it deliciously simple and always melodic, making the former choirgirl-cum-Chicago-house-siren a mainstay of modern dance music.

Chuck Love Chuck Love Logo
Chuck Love
Love, as we’re sure you’ve gathered by now, is not a typical house music maker – in fact, the dance music veteran didn’t start off as most do with the bedroom DJ gear and gig here and there at the local dive bars. As heard on his very new, very first longplayer, “Bring Enough To Spill Some” (“it’s a bitch to type,” Love says), the man plays all his own instruments (and birds, even). When his contemporaries in his house-lovin’ home-base of Minneapolis expressed their love of the beat through DJ sets, Love would happily back them on trumpet, guitar, or really anything else he could find – his shows at legendary night spot First Avenue becoming more packed each month. It’s not that Love can’t DJ or produce – au contraire.Love says he’s found a really good fit to do what he does from the DJ box, presenting his production as well as live solos with instruments and vocals, making the show just a little different from what house-heads usually see from their DJs.

James Curd
James Curd began djing in Chicago in the early nineties. By the time he was 19 he was holding down residencies with Derrick Carter and releasing music on labels around the world.

James wrote a wide array of songs and released "Should I Sing Like This" under the name Greenskeepers. "Should I Sing Like This" became a hit with djs in the city and around the world. Greenskeepers was gaining steam in every direction including press support from Rolling Stone. James continued to release music and dj under the name Greenskeepers. His song "Low and Sweet" off of the Classic release "What's Your Man Got To Do With Gan" further cemented his swing house signature.

In 2005 James took a live show on the road. The live show was a great success and made a huge impression on some of the most respected clubs around the world from Fabric in London to Home in Sydney. The live show also made a big impact in the electronic world at some of the best music festivels such as T In The Park in Scotland, Electric Picnic in Dublin, Park Life in Australia and Lollapalooza in Chicago.

After touring non stop to all ends of the earth James went back into the studio. Currently James has done a song for the new video game "Grand Theft Auto IV" which was used for the national commercial campaign. He has also signed his single "We Just Won't Stop" to James Murpheys label DFA. James is just about to release a new mix cd for the Australian club Electric Circus coming out on OM in conjunction with his own label GKM. To round up a busy year James has also finished an album with Tommie Sunshine under the name "The Projects".

Fred Everything
Fred Everything
Canadian DJ/producer Fred everything is a key player in the world of house music and with 12 years in the music business and over 100 productions to his credit, he shows no signs of stopping. Born in Hull and raised in Quebec city, Fred got the early bug for electronic music in high school. He formed a few bands while spending his weekends as one of the youngest in local nightclubs. In the early 90s, he started playing live in raves and clubs in Canada. He was then known as “everything,” because his live sets could range anywhere from techno to house, ambient and even drum and bass. He even got to open up for a then up and coming, Sasha. Tired of carrying his equipment around, mainly a TR909 and a SH101, he started DJ'ing and changed his name to Fred Everything. A move to the big city of Montreal was the next obvious thing, and it wasn’t too long after that Fred found himself releasing records on some of his favorite labels and catching the attention of DJs and producers worldwide.

The Whooligan
The Whooligan
Julio "The Whooligan" Galvez, known by many as "Who" is a DJ and producer from San Francisco, California. Hailing from the East Bay streets to the concrete jungle of the SFC, the Whooligan has made his mark in various parts of the United States and beyond. Whether it's lacing smooth, sample-laden beats, steady rocking national events and clubs on the 1's & 2's or making major moves on the Sole Vibe & 40Love's behalf, the Whooligan handles it all. Strapped with an MPC and a disgustingly obese record collection, Whooligan is beyond the mundane, average club DJ.

Futuristicsoulsexygalacticghettotechtronicboombap best describes the vibe of Whooligan's music- "My goal is to uplift my people and do my best at representing what I love to listen to. I was put on this planet to share good music," says Whooligan. The Whooligan rocks with versatility so you will never hear the same sound or mix coming from his sets and instrumentation. Tours with MTV, Myspace, Island Def Jam and Sony, along with DJ's from across the world has secured the Whooligan as one of the most respected selectors on the West Coast. Who maintains professionalism with each and every articulated spin, drawing an infectuous balance between raw talent and refined skill that many DJ's struggle to strive for throughout their entire career. Searching for the perfect beat is merely a piece of the puzzle for Whooligan, "It's all about the love. We keep it moving, on the dancefloor or on the streets. Holla at me or my goons if you want to party and learn something new." The Whooligan is proudly among the Sole Vibe, Rightlane Entertainment and 40Love families.

Ben Doren

Ben Doren (2nd Sunday/levende/sf) has been DJing for 19 years, going way back to the mid-80’s in Chicago where he was born and raised, then during college in Iowa City, finally landing a permanent home in San Francisco from 1994 until today. Ben is the founder/talent booker/resident DJ of the legendary 2nd Sunday parties, and managing owner of 2 Bay Area venues, Levende Lounge (SF) and Levende East (Oakland). His big break in San Francisco was earning a weekly residency at the world-famous Release party at 1015 Folsom in 1997 which opened many doors, including a residency at mega-club Ruby Skye for the first 3 years they were open. Ben has played with all the biggest names in the industry at nearly every large, medium and even some small clubs and lounges in and around San Francisco and all over the US, including NYC, LA, Las Vegas, Seattle, Phoenix, Chicago, Miami, San Diego, Orange County, Sacramento, Tahoe, and outside the US in Mykonos, Greece and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

DJ Rouzbeh
DJ Rouzbeh

Since 1997, DJ Rouzbeh began laying down the vinyl with one goal in mind, being able to work crowds to another state of mind. His passion for the sound and ability to remix tracks live led him to embark on the musical journey he has come to today. Rouzbeh's ability to work the floor with creative sounds and effects sets him apart from the 'average DJ', and has led him to play alongside many world-class DJs. Taking one step further, he jumpstarted Back2Basics in 2000, and currently still manages enough time to be involved in event production. His talents - musical and business - have cemented his existence in the San Francisco house scene. If you have not had a chance to catch him at a LIVE performance, you are missing quite a show.

DJ VonDJ Von logo
Von

Von's father started his record collection the day he was born, literally. He got his first turntable in 1990, but he could only afford one, so he was a turntablist by default. When he got his second turntable he was primarily a hip-hop dj, back when hip-hop was great. Back when it was hip-hop. As it began to turn sour in the late 90s he was turned onto house music. He was turned onto many different types of music at that time in his life, but deep, funky, soulful, weird House music was what he developed a passion for. He played nothing but house for about 5 years, but then it lost support and it became hard to find gigs as a "house dj". So now He combines his life-long record collection, his skills as a turntablist, his trained ear as a house dj, and his passion for Jazz and Soul, and rocks parties as hard as he can.

Inside

Andrew Phelan
Andrew Phelan
Andrew Phelan ( pronounced ‘feelin’ ) was raised on Chicago’s underground house scene, influenced early by local jocks such as Derrick Carter, Sneak, Halo and Justin Long.  A veteran DJ of over 13 years, Andrew moved to San Francisco in 2001, bringing his smooth, layered mixing style, wide ranging music tastes, and infectious energy behind the decks with him.

In 2005 Andrew launched Prismatic Tracks, a label that has featured some of the premier names in house music, including Luke Solomon, Santiago & Bushido, Scope, Bryan Jones, Christian Malloni, Jake Childs, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Chris Lum and Ross Couch.  Locally in San Francisco, the Prismatic brand is renowned for producing events at hot spots such as Mezzanine, Vessel, Mighty, Harlot, DNA Lounge and Supperclub, booking top international talent including Green Velvet, Doc Martin, Hipp-E, Jay Tripwire and Justin Martin.

In the studio, Andrew can most frequently be seen paired up with good friend George Cochrane, aka Origami.  Based out of SF’s famed Moulton Studios complex, the duo’s sound is a schizophrenic blend of funk, tech, deep and electro, all tied to a core of live instruments and deceptively catchy vocals.  Tapped often for their transformative, scene-stealing remix work, they also play well with others, laying tracks with vocalists Brown and Audio Angel, and moonlighting in maximal-electro foursome The Fingermonsters.

Beyond their extensive body of work on Prismatic Tracks, the duo have releases on some of the most respected labels in house, including Drop Music, Eight-Tracks, So Sound, Amenti, Lost My Dog and Body Rhythm.  This work has garnered them praise in DJ Mag, Urb, iDJ and DMC Update, as well as landing them on the charts and playlists of Radio 1, Kiss FM, Mark Farina, Jay-J, Laurent Garnier, Inland Knights, Funk D’Void, Colette, Robert Owens, Roger Sanchez and DJ Heather, to name but a few.

In 2000 Rooz & Rouzbeh formed R-Squared, which is a wild display of music by the two remixing LIVE! Rooz has always been associated with San Francisco's best DJs and promoters, so he has the credibility of his peers.
